How to screenshot on iPhone
Side and Volume Up, then skip Markup highlighter. Cover numbers in a new PNG before you share.

Side button and Volume Up, together, then release. That is how to screenshot on an iPhone without a Home button. Home button plus Side or Top is the older pair. The thumbnail in the corner is where people “black out” a number with Markup’s highlighter and still leak it.
Capture first. Cover second. Send a new PNG. Do not send the original sitting in Recents.
How to screenshot on iPhone
- Face ID models (iPhone X and later): press Side and Volume Up at the same time, then let go. The screen flashes.
- Home button models: press Home and Side (or Top) together, then let go.
- AssistiveTouch: Settings → Accessibility → Touch → AssistiveTouch. Add Screenshot to the menu if the buttons are awkward.
- Back Tap: Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap. Double-tap or triple-tap can fire a screenshot.
The image saves to Photos, in Recents and in the Screenshots album. If you cannot find it, see where screenshots go.
Do not highlighter-redact the thumbnail
Tap the thumbnail for Markup. The thick marker is a highlighter. It tints. Raise brightness in Photos and many digits come back. Use a filled square from the + menu at 100% opacity, or skip Markup and use a browser tab that paints pixels. Walkthroughs: blur a screenshot on iPhone and Markup brightness reveal.
Cover names and numbers, then share
Chat titles, notification banners, the keyboard suggesting an email, a card in Wallet, a map pin. Crop when you can. Bar when you must. Open BlurThis in Safari or Chrome. Choose the screenshot. Black bar for anything short and guessable. Download the PNG. Attach that, not the Camera Roll original.
FAQ: Why didn’t it screenshot?
You held the buttons into the power-off slider. Press and release together, short. Some apps block capture (banking, streaming). You will get a black frame or nothing. Do not photograph the glass with another phone as a workaround for a bank screen; that photo still holds the digits.
FAQ: iPhone 16 vs older — different keys?
No Home button means Side + Volume Up. That pair has been stable since iPhone X. Confirm on your model in Settings search if a case remaps nothing; the buttons did not move.
